Good, Better or Best?

People often come to me feeling tired and stuck. They ask, "How do I fix my life?"

They think they need to wake up at 4 AM, run a marathon, or change everything overnight. But that usually leads to burnout.

Real change doesn't have to be hard. In fact, for it to stick, it should be simple. Here are four easy lessons I teach my clients to help them feel happier and calmer.

1. Change the Story in Your Head

Imagine you are wearing sunglasses with dark lenses. Everything you look at—the sun, the trees, your friends—will look dark.

Your attitude is like those glasses. If you constantly tell yourself "I’m not good enough" or "This is too hard," then your life will feel hard.

Try this:

Notice when you are being mean to yourself.

  • Instead of saying: "I made a mistake. I’m so stupid."
  • Say this instead: "I made a mistake. It happens to everyone. I will learn from it."

Be as kind to yourself as you would be to your best friend.

2. Start Small (Really Small)

Why do New Year's resolutions fail? Because we try to do too much, too fast. Your brain gets scared of big tasks.

If you want to build confidence, you don't need to climb a mountain. You just need to take one step.

The "2-Minute" Rule:

  • Want to read more? Don't try to read a whole book. Just read one page.
  • Want to get fit? Don't sign up for a marathon. Just walk for 5 minutes.

When the task is small, it’s easy to start. And once you start, you usually keep going.

3. Give Your Brain a Break

We are on our phones all day. We watch news, scroll through Instagram, and answer emails non-stop.

Imagine if you never turned off your car engine. Eventually, it would overheat and break down. Your brain is the same. It needs to rest to work properly.

Try this:

Make a rule: No phones 30 minutes before bed.

Let your brain relax. You will sleep better, and you will wake up feeling much fresher.

4. It Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect

Many people are scared to start something because they are afraid they won't do it perfectly. This is called "Perfectionism," and it actually stops you from growing.

In psychology, we say: "Done is better than perfect."

  • A short, messy workout is better than no workout.
  • Cleaning one corner of your room is better than cleaning nothing.

Don't wait for the perfect time. It will never come. Just do your best with what you have today.

A Final Note

Improving your life isn't a race. You don't have to fix everything today.

Life is a journey. Some days will be great, and some days will be hard. That is normal. Just take a deep breath, be kind to yourself, and take one small step forward.
