Are we really working for Socials?
As to start with today's topic let me put
one incident of my own life...
because of one of my friend got
a chance to visit Devbandh Centre in Palghar District where
they are giving their life for betterment of approx. 100 nearby villages. We
went for the distribution of sarees on occasion of BHAUBIJ (an ancient
tradition in Maharashtra between brother & Sister). While travelling to the
Centre which is approx. 20 KM interior from Kasara Ghat in Maharashtra, I
observed the first thing is lack of necessary facilities in the area. They have
green Field but not able to do Farming, they don’t have any other source of
Income, Their Houses are still made of Grass & Soil. their Annual
Income will be HARDLY 15000 RS/-, as a born & brought up citizen
of Mumbai city we cannot Believe that some family's annual income is this
much....
this trip made me think a
thousand thoughts that.....
ARE WE REALLY DOING SOCIAL
WORK, BY DOING CAMPAIGNS, DISTRIBUTING FOOD, TEACHING STUDENTS, PLANTING TREES,
BLOOD CAMP, MEDICAL CAMP, DISTRIBUTING CLOTHES IN MUMBAI?
IS IT MORE
IMPORTANT THAN THE SITUATION OF THIS PEOPLE IN DEVBANDH?
We are only
working for Mumbai, why? because we like to work as per our comfort level
only... why we are not able to reach in these Tribal area, nearby in
our own state only? because this area is at distance of 4-hour journey
which is not feasible for our comfort...& there must be many more villages
there who are living under same situations....... than why are we working (or I
must say searching) for the needy people in Mumbai only...????
We are looking
more towards our comfort level in Social Work as well?
Can't we spare
just 8 Hours of a week or a month to work for them who really in need &
there is no one to reach them?
Once talked
with a friend I got an extraordinary excuse that: " it is government's duty to fulfil
their needs".... accepted, argue was genuine but then question arises
that,
IF THAT IS A
GOVT. DUTY, THEN SAME APPLIES IN MUMBAI AS WELL
THAN WHY
WORKING IN MUMBAI? OR IF IT IS SAME THEN YOU SHOULD WORK IN THAT VILLAGES AS
WELL.
My opinion
fully changed after the visit to Devbandh & talking to my friend about the
Social Work.
Conclusion I
got from this was if I really want to work for Society & Humanity it should
be done to the places where no one reaches.... because in Mumbai everyone can
get their Job but what about the places where there is nothing available?
&
just because it’s
not into my comfort I should not work for them? Than the same question arises
in my mind that,
ARE WE REALLY WORKING
FOR SOCIALS?????
